Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions has been involved in BMD and Space issues since 1993 when we
started providing technical, operational and project support to the responsible
MOD Directorate. Since then, we have been involved in all the major UK BMD
research, analysis and experimentation programmes.
Now, we are proud to be a full participant in the UK's Missile Defence Centre (MDC), a joint UK Government and Industry initiative that is providing an interface between the UK and the US Missile Defence Agency (MDA), and a forum for the exchange of ideas and capabilities between UK and US industry.
Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions has become a key member of the MDC not simply because of the quality and breadth of the independent support we provide to the MOD, but also because a number of our consultants have extensive backgrounds in BMD and space operations.
Our work in the MDC has included the development of initial operating concepts, analysis of doctrinal issues, C4I architectural framework analyses, and the design, conduct and analysis of wargames and trials. In particular, we provide the lead UK facilitator for the UK/US bi-lateral wargame activities. We have also developed user requirements and a Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for strategic situational awareness capabilities.
This work has drawn on our comprehensive understanding of missile defence and space issues, particularly when taken in the context of Extended Air Defence. This comes both from our experience in this area as a company and from the extensive backgrounds in missile defence policy, staffing, experimentation and operations possessed by our consultants.
In addition to the work that we are conducting for the MDC, Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions is currently contributing to the continuing work of the UK Government by conducting studies into Command and Control aspects of BMD – both at the strategic and tactical levels. Our expertise has allowed us to provide a uniquely effective viewpoint on this subject. In particular, we have recently been conducting analysis of decision-making processes at all levels from tactical to grand strategic in a territorial defence context.
In Theatre Missile Defence (TMD), Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions has conducted C4I
architecture studies and gap analyses in UK national, Coalition and Alliance
contexts, looking forward to the 2020 timeframe. This work has included the
development of TMD business process models and requirement maps for active
defence, passive defence and counter-force operations.
In the wider military space operations arena, we produced for the MOD the User Requirements Document, System Requirements Document and CONOPS for the new Space Analysis and Warning Distribution System, which recently entered service with the RAF. This work allowed UK military forces to achieve a major step forward in this crucial capability area. We have also been instrumental in developing requirements and capabilities for the implementation of comprehensive space operations pictures for both the UK and the US.
Finally, Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions maintains a number of strategic relationships with other leaders in the field of Missile Defence to ensure the ability to provide a comprehensive service and match any customer requirement.
