Extensive experience of the conceptual and practical aspects of UAV systems operations

Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions has a wide range of experience of working on UAV programmes. For example, we have worked on the UK’s Watchkeeper programme for both industry and the UK government, helping to define both operational concepts and procedures for through-life interoperability assurance. This work has included:

  • Development of the Concept of Operations.
  • Operational capability assessment.
  • Addressing battlespace and airspace integration issues.

We are also a member of the Astraea consortium, which is aiming to further develop understanding of the challenges facing this new industry through technology demonstration programmes. Our expertise is being used to address:

  • Communications.
  • Integration with ATC and the operational environment.
  • ‘Airmanship’ issues.
  • Regulatory compliance.
  • Operations and procedures.
  • Security.

In addition, we have been at the centre of efforts to develop the UAV systems industry as a whole. One of our consultants is the General Secretary of the UK’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems Association (UAVS) and a former Director of the European Unmanned Vehicle Systems Association (Euro UVS) - now the Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Association - and we have held Corporate membership of both these organizations since their early days. Within these organizations, we have conducted particular work in:

  • Command, Control and Communications (C3).
  • Airspace policy and air traffic management.
  • Requirements for UAV system operations.

Lockheed Martin UK - Integrated Systems & Solutions are well placed to provide UAV consultancy services in the fields of both ATM and C3 by:

  • Providing advice on regulatory, procedural and equipment requirements.
  • Providing liaison with policy-making and regulatory authorities.
  • Providing solutions for C3 integration and interoperability issues.
  • Developing operational concepts for UAV systems use in a wide range of military and civil applications.
